The first question people usually ask me is how in the world I got into construction. It is not my background, it is not a family business and moreover I am a woman in an industry dominated by men.

I think you could say I very unexpectedly found my true calling. About ten years ago, when we were building our own dream home, I fell in love with every aspect of the process. It was the most enjoyable, fascinating and interesting thing I ever did. In fact, I took over parts of the process that are normally handled by the builder team. Let me tell you a little more about how we created our dream home which led me into the construction world.

In the beginning, we had no idea about what type of a house we wanted for ourselves. I did not have the full image of the house in my mind yet, but I had bits and pieces of it. I knew I wanted tall ceilings, open floor plan, lots of bedrooms for our never ending guests, bathrooms in every bedroom so everyone can have their private quarters, a huge kitchen and a large family room with lots of built-in bookshelves for our books, journals, magazines, articles, paperwork, picture frames and a desk right in the family room so we can work, watch TV and spend time together as a family. I wanted a formal living room so that if someone dropped by unexpectedly, that would be the presentable room to visit with them. My husband wanted an amazing foyer where people will have an incredible wow factor as they come in to our house; we wanted a library for our books, pictures, albums, and collectibles. Well, of course the kids were younger back then and we needed a multi-purpose room for children to have sleep over’s and play games with their friends. As we put these pieces together, our dream turned into a reality, our house was built, we moved in and turned it into a lovely home with lots of memories. I wish walls in any home could talk one day to tell all those stories they witness, good and bad. Every family has so many lovely stories and only those walls are the true witnesses of those.

After this wonderful experience of building our custom home, I found myself in the construction industry, a year later we started SilverCrest Homes and we have been building exquisite, one of a kind million dollar custom homes ever since. I truly enjoy the process; if we are building a spec home, it is like creating a new dream home for a family who will love and cherish that house. If it is a pre-sale custom home with a client then it is an experience to ride together with them as we create their dream. It is the feeling of specialness and importance; it is the feeling of precious contribution, it is the feeling of being significant to other people and the feeling that we made a difference.

For some reason during the last few months, I had several water leakage problems at my personal home and my office that made me wonder, what does this all mean? Thinking positively from a perspective of water providing calming and soothing effects, I ask: Is it perhaps telling me how smooth of a year I will have in 2010 building many homes for my clients where they live happily with their loved ones?

Water provides the tranquility in life. In essence, water carries the life energy throughout the world. We harness this life energy to enrich our environment and to create balance as well as harmony within our lives.

As we travel on this journey to dream homes, let us include the life of energy, the harmony and the balance into our environment. As you are dreaming of that home, one other aspect to remember is the location. I know you have a picture in your mind; you see your house, not floating in midair, but on some specific site. It may sit on top of a hill, it may be near the ocean, it may be in the woods or it may be in a private quality neighborhood in your favorite town.

We have to place your dream on an actual lot that suits your needs and resembles your dreams. You may want a nice garden. You may want a quiet neighborhood with tall trees, or just small ferns. You may want the privacy of a secluded cul-de-sac lot or a lake view might be a high priority for you.

Here are a couple of lots that we have at SilverCrest Homes that might help you visualize that dream. The first lot has a lake view, it will bring the life energy to your house as you wake up to the still body of water.

The second lot will allow you to have the option of building a house with a full day light basement if you would like.

As you look over these lots, I want you to ask yourself “how does this make me feel?” Can you see yourself spending the best years of your life here? If yes, give us a call at SilverCrest Homes and we can turn that dream into a reality! These lots are located in the Renaissance at Regency neighborhood.

Renaissance at Regency is located in Cary, off Ederlee Drive and Regency Parkway in the lush Regency Park area – minutes from an array of shopping, medical facilities and recreational activities, including Koka Booth Amphitheatre on Symphony Lake and the new state-of-the-art Lifetime Fitness Health Club.

Today is the first day of 2010. We have started not only a new year but also a new decade. My expectations for this year are, hopefully like your own, very high. I had a tough year last year and I suspect most of you had a very hard year as well, but finally it is over. We can all look forward to a new beginning. I have a feeling 2010 will be a much better year, in fact a great year for all of us.

With that thought in mind and with all the other resolutions you may have made, let’s continue our journey to that lovely home of yours that is to become a reality in 2010.

I posed a number of questions to you in our last blog, so I hope you all now have a good idea of some of the features of your dream home in terms of the look of the house, the number of bedrooms you want, formal and casual living spaces, the master bedroom suite with all the special areas you need to spoil yourself, the fireplaces including the specific types, the layout of the house so your kids (or spouse) can run around, the landscape as well as hard surfaces around the house, and more.

Now what, you are asking yourself, I started dreaming about it, I have a picture in my mind, now what do we do?

Well, the next step is to put what’s on your mind on to paper. That’s where SilverCrest comes in. We will get together with an architect and a designer to help us with that process. First, we will start with a simple sketch just to see everything on paper. Then, you’ll begin to understand you’d rather have your kitchen where that keeping room is and it doesn’t make sense to put your master bedroom next to the garage. Similarly the entire house–the rooms, walls, windows, doors, fireplaces, sinks, bathrooms—will be reworked until it takes the shape you love, until it is the same image on paper as it was in your mind. Most importantly, this process will shape your creative ideas, your imagination, your desires and your wishes into an exclusive and fabulous home of your dreams. This is the wonderful process.

We at SilverCrest Homes, can help you not only with this process but also in making that dream home turn into a reality. We work with local architects and interior designers who share our vision and determination to help you. It may seem overwhelming but give us a call and we’ll show you this is not only a fun but also a rewarding process. We can’t wait to work with you!

Blogging is so new to me yet I would like to get on with times and be able to blog just like so many other people are doing.

Here I am sitting in one of the most gorgeous ski resorts’ lodge in Tahoe City California — Alpine Meadows and enjoying the scenery on a spectacularly nice day with blue and sunny skies. It is a beautiful resort; people from all around the world are skiing and snowboarding. They are having fun and they all look very pleased with this activity, there is so much gear that people have to deal with while doing this sport yet they don’t seem to mind at all. In a few days, they will all go back home to their regular daily activities.

How many of these people will be building their dream homes in the upcoming 2010, I wonder? Do they even know about the process of home building? Where do you start and how do you plan? Well, they may say I don’t have any money so there is no way I can afford my dream home. But, isn’t it with dreams that we start everything we want in life. The cabin we are staying in has a big wall poster that reads: it’ll cost nothing to dream & everything not to.

Let’s go on a journey to dream that lovely home that will be yours perhaps in 2010. How many bedrooms and how many bathrooms do you need? What will the façade of your house look like and of what materials? Where do you want your kitchen to be located? Do you need a fireplace in the kitchen or breakfast nook or family room? How about the floors, ceramic tile or hardwood? Would it be nice to have an open kitchen area to entertain your friends and loved ones? Should all that be connected to an outdoor area where entertainment can be easily moved to outdoors weather permitting, and the landscape and hardscape in your outdoor areas? What about the counter tops and the layout of the kitchen? How about a large wooden island or perhaps granite top, where people can gather while preparing and cooking dinner? Should that island have an extra sink for easy food preparation?

Now let’s move to the master bedroom area and start thinking about that for a while? Do you need an extra sitting area in there, should you need a fireplace right across from your bed with a TV hook up on top? Do you need a breakfast bar for morning coffee? How big of a master closet do you need, should that be broken into his and hers? What about the shower and the bath tub?

I have given you so many questions to think about that dream, haven’t I? Well, we, at SilverCrest Homes, can help you not only with all these questions but also in making that dream turn into reality. It seems overwhelming yet it is not only a fun but also a rewarding process to work together and make this dream come true!
